Our study also does not support using bacterial septic tank additives as a substitute or to reduce septic tank
pumping frequency. The effect of the initial (X) sludge, scum, and total solids contents prior to additive application was significant all the time.
Instruction provided to mothers regarding the use of a breast pump included: (a) steps in operation of full-service automatic electric breast pump while in hospital, (b) double pumping both breasts simultaneously, (c) pumping frequency of 6-8 times daily, (d) pumping duration of 10-15 minutes/breast, (e) proper storage and handling of breastmilk, and (f) access to rental breast pumps for home use.
Instruction to pump 6-8 times in 24 hours, allowing for one 5-hour stretch of sleep at night, supports postpartum recovery and increases compliance with pumping frequency.
