quasi-atom

(atomic physics)
A system formed by two colliding atoms whose nuclei approach each other so closely that, for a very short time, the atomic electrons arrange themselves as if they belonged to a single atom whose atomic number equals the sum of the atomic numbers of the colliding atoms.
