An internal investigation carried out by SilkAir has been submitted to Hong Kong investigators and the SAR Civil Aviation Department subsequently suspended the
radar controller involved pending completion of the official investigation.
A spokeswoman added: "Following this serious incident, the
radar controller involved underwent a training programme tailored to the lessons arising from the event, and subsequently returned to operational duty.
This state-of-the-art training system includes a 180 degree field-of-view tower simulator; an out-the-window, three-channel visual display system; three training positions; a site-specific Warsaw database; and two
radar controller workstations that support both enroute/area control center and terminal approach control simulation.
At some, the listed Clearance Delivery frequency for nontowered airports is worked by the
radar controller overseeing that field.
