Because non-linear loads are neither leading nor lagging shifts of the current waveform with respect to the voltage waveform, they cannot be mitigated by application of an opposite displacement reactive load. If the inverter is fed from rectifier, the capacitor C0 is placed on its input and receives the reactive load energy and decreases possible overvoltages.
If the power system's reactive load is capacitive (leading), the SVC will use reactors (usually in the form of Thyristor- Controlled Reactors) to consume VARs from the system, lowering the system voltage.
The induction motor is the most wide spread contributor to the reactive load in industrial electric power system, its power factor tends to increase with the increase of power rating the power factor, however, decreases with decreasing load condition, and it should be increased during high load for the induction motor it may be improved by connecting a capacitor directly across the motor terminal or alternatetirely by connecting a capacitor to the lines supply the motors.
At the PCC bus, the whole power system can be seen as a power source connected with an active load and a reactive load as shown in Fig.14 (a).
The new EcoPower machine series (not to be confused with the EcoPower reactive load reduction tool introduced by the company at the last Fakuma) was heralded in June last year when Wittmann Battenfeld outlined its plans to reinvigorate the machine range.
