ridge rib

A continuous, projecting rib connecting the apexes of the intermediate ribs of a rib vault with the center of the vault.

1. A horizontal rib marking the crown of a compartment of vaulting, characteristic of English Gothic architecture from the early 13th cent. on, but occasionally found on the Continent.
2. A rib which follows the ridge of a vault.
