Semasiology

 

in the Russian and European tradition, the branch of linguistics concerned with lexical semantics, that is, the meanings of those linguistic units (words and word combinations) that are used to name individual objects and phenomena of reality. In contemporary linguistics, the tasks of semasiology are addressed by the broader discipline of semantics.
