Sesbania

a genus of plants of the family Leguminosae. The plants are herbs, shrubs, or trees with even-pinnate leaves. The yellow, white, or purple flowers are papilionaceous and gathered in axillary racemes. The fruits are long, slender pods.

There are about 50 species, distributed in the tropics and sub-tropics of both hemispheres. Many herbaceous species are cultivated as green-manure and fodder plants; the trees are used for shading tea and other plantings. S. sesban, which has large bright-yellow flowers measuring about 3 cm across, has been cultivated for a long time as an ornamental. The bark of S. can-nabina (also known as S. aculeata) and other species yields a coarse fiber used in the manufacture of ropes, nets, and other products.
