shadow ram

A memory area in PC-AT compatibles used to store frequently accessed ROM code to speed up operation.

shadow RAM

A RAM copy of a PC's ROM BIOS. In order to improve performance, the BIOS, which is stored in a ROM chip, is copied to and executed from RAM. RAM chips are accessed faster than ROMs.
