During the 2015 Tucson gem shows, stabilized slabs and cabochons represented as shattuckite
from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were sold under the trade name Lunazul by Brett and Allyce Kosnar (Kosnar Gem Co., Black Hawk, Colorado, USA).
Ladislav Turecky), Dioptase, Malachite and Shattuckite
from Namibia (Paul and Antoine Weghorn), and Minerals of Turkey (Christa Zechner).
Raman spectra in the region 200-2000 [cm.sup.-1] identified the specimen as shattuckite
, with characteristic peaks at ~259, 329, 395, 450, 508, 559, 661, 775, 847, 942 and 1069 [cm.sup.-1] (see, e.g., www.
Fabrizio and Luca Ferrero (firstname.lastname@example.org) brought back several good specimens from their recent trip to Namibia, especially druses of very fine, deep-blue shattuckite
on matrix with dioptase from the Omaue mine, Kaokoveld.
While luxuriantly sipping wine (normally I'm a beer man) with Brice and Christophe in their booth in "the Taj" I also saw the best of a new lot of superb specimens of dioptase on shattuckite
from Kaokoveld, Namibia--the sharp, deep green, doubly terminated dioptase crystals of typical form reach 2.5 cm, and they rest on baby-blue botryoidal cavity linings of shattuckite
While showing the scalenohedral morphology of calcite, the crystals consist instead of dioptase, plancheite, and perhaps also shattuckite
. We located the original specimens from this find in order to resolve a controversy about their mineralogy that dates back to 1925-1926.
Lining the walls of cavities were microcrystals of scorodite, chenevixite, shattuckite
, chrysocolla and malachite.
Medium-sharp, lustrous, deep green dioptase crystals to 2 cm line seams in white dolomite; some specimens also show massive bright blue chrysocolla, patches of drusy quartz, and tiny spheres of pale blue shattuckite
. Large miniature and small cabinet specimens of this attractive (and "new") dioptase were priced by Gilbert up to $1,000.
Across the ball, Namibia Minerals (email@example.com) had a new find of shattuckite
from Namibia, some crystals reaching 9 mm.
Before this time, the locality was famous for quartz included with papagoite and shattuckite
, although these were never plentiful.
From the genetic point of view, it is believed that the leaching of the primary sulfides created sulfate solutions that have reacted with the dolomitic rocks to produce secondary carbonates (malachite, sphaerocobaltite), and with the siliceous rocks to produce silicates, such as chrysocolla, plancheite, shattuckite
Also, it can easily be argued that Bisbee may well have been the source of the best examples of these supergene copper minerals as well: aurichalcite, connellite, cyanotrichite, malachite and shattuckite
