ganglioside
[′gaŋ·glē·ō‚sīd] (biochemistry)
One of a group of glycosphingolipids found in neuronal surface membranes and spleen; they contain an N-acyl fatty acid derivative of sphingosine linked to a carbohydrate (glucose or galactose); they also contain N-acetylglucosamine or N-acetylgalactosamine, and N-acetylneuraminic acid.
