Direct Injection

 

a method of supplying fuel to the combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine with internal mixing; the fuel is atomized as it enters the chamber at high speed. Direct injection is achieved by means of manifold fuel feed equipment operating at a maximum injection pressure of up to 100 meganewtons per sq m (MN/m2; 1 MN/m2 = 10 kilograms-force per sq cm) or by a pump-and-injector unit at a pressure of up to 200 MN/m2. Direct injection is used in diesel engines and in certain types of engines with spark ignition.

As shown in Table 2, the average weight reduction of microcellular injection molded PC-N and water-assisted microcellular injection molded PC-W foamed parts was approximately 10% compared to conventional solid injection molded samples.
The Mucell process for producing microcellular injection molded parts is used and accepted globally as a technology option for providing a more dimensionally stable part through a reduction in residual stress, along with increased productivity versus solid injection molded parts.
To produce a lighter plastic part having a cellular structure in the polymer matrix, the shot volume was reduced up to 15% as compared with conventional solid injection molded parts.
