spin-flip laser

spin-flip laser

[′spin ¦flip ′lā·zər]
(optics)
A semiconductor laser in which the output wavelength is continuously tunable by a magnetic field; operation is based on exciting conduction-band electrons to a higher energy level by reversing the direction of the electrons as they spin about an axis in the direction of the magnetic field.
