This can be spot jamming - identifying the signal to be jammed and tuning the jamming generator to the correct frequency - or barrage jamming - operating over a wide band of frequencies rather than at discrete frequencies.
With spot jamming, a receiver is used to identify the signal to be jammed and to tune the jamming generator to the correct frequency.
Where spot jamming and some types of deceptive jamming are used, this operational isolation can allow the receiver to perform a fairly efficient search - if there is some level of isolation to keep the jammer from saturating the receiver's front-end components.
