Bronchoscopy

 

a method of direct examination of the trachea and bronchi by means of a special instrument—the bronchoscope. Bronchoscopy is used for diagnosis and treatment and also for removal of foreign bodies from the trachea and bronchi.

We first searched PubMed, Embase, and The Cochrane Library for systematic reviews reporting the diagnostic yield of EBUS-TBNA versus standard bronchoscopy for sarcoidosis.
Studies were included if they met the following criteria: (1) evaluation of the diagnostic yield of EBUS-TBNA versus standard bronchoscopy for sarcoidosis; (2) use of a retrospective, prospective, or randomized controlled trial (RCT) study design; (3) use of a sample size of >20; and (4) availability of absolute numbers or the potential to derive them from the data reported in the primary studies.
Imaging may augment standard bronchoscopy, giving doctors a precise lung-measuring tool.
