Bruce Card recommends familiarizing yourself with a sky map or star wheel
so you understand where to look for planets, stars and major constellations.
In Geneva mechanism two parts are mainly important: star wheel
and crank wheel.
They used a star wheel
- one with a saw tooth profile mounted over the conveyor so each cap was individually taken through 180 degrees and placed back onto the conveyor.
The Pro 2000 does not have automatic indexing, but instead features a star wheel
attached to the top of the shell plate allowing indexing by hand.
The cable is hooked up to the brake lever and when the lever sees a certain amount of travel, it drops down a small spring-loaded arm that clicks down below a star wheel
. When it retracts, it pulls the star wheel
up and makes the adjustment.
A handy tool to do this is a planisphere, or "star wheel
." By spinning the dial to match tonight's date and time, you'll instantly know which constellations are currently visible.
Cases are advanced by hand using a star wheel
. With the RL 550B, an empty case is fed into the right side of the press while the bullet is placed in the left side.
Trays come into the case packer both vertically and horizontally, so the case packer uses a star wheel
to rotate the package to the correct orientation, thereby meeting the case packer pattern.
And they all use an infeed timing screw and in- feed star wheel
to route containers continuously from a single-lane conveyor onto a rotary filling turret.
Among the machines available for demonstration in the new showroom will be the HERMA 132M, a wraparound, high speed labeling machine featuring a rotating star wheel
for precise product transport.
The unit is continuously fed from a turntable, or a transport belt, with incoming containers individually transferred to the indexing transport system via a servo-controlled segmented star wheel
. At the outfeed of the machine, the containers are transferred by another segmented star wheel
to a continuous stream and conveyed onto a transport belt or a tray.
