superclass

superclass

In object technology, a high-level class that passes attributes and methods (data and processing) down the hierarchy to subclasses, the classes below it. Abstract superclasses are used as master structures and no objects are created for it. Concrete superclasses are used to create objects.

In a related problem, implementing inheritance on a distributed system leads to the problem of accessing remote code for superclasses, unless all class code is replicated to all processors, which has obvious scalability limitations.
For intersite distribution, the most appropriate concern is breaking the system into appropriate components and placing them at the required site--ensuring that the data, methods and superclasses required for processing are locally available.
The resulting theory is very nicely behaved--there is a rich combinatorics describing induction and restriction along with an elegant formula for the values of supercharacters on superclasses.
