tachogenerator
tachogenerator
A generator employed to measure engine speed electrically. It contains a three-phase stator and two-pole permanent magnet rotor. Rotation of the magnet induces a three-phase voltage in the stator windings; the frequency of this winding is proportional to the engine speed. The signal is then fed to the tachometer or RPM gauge.
