Sebaceous cyst and thyroglossal cyst
were the most commonly encountered mass in our group followed by dermoid cyst, lipoma and fibroma.
Because the frequency of thyroglossal cyst
carcinoma is very low, in a large percentage of cases the clinicians seldom consider an oncologic diagnosis and therefore do not perform a preoperative fine needle aspiration biopsy, albeit its low sensitivity .
Age of the youngest patient in this series was 3 years; there were two patients with cytological diagnosis of thyroglossal cyst
and colloid cyst, respectively.
Later he performed three operations which included open right lobectomy, Thyroglossal cyst
and endoscopic thyroidectomy and demonstrated his surgical techniques.

Other diagnosis observed are thyroiditis [7 (11.6%) cases], follicular adenoma [3 (5%) cases], thyroglossal cyst
[2 (3.3%) cases], benign cystic lesion [1 (1.6%) case], hyalinizing trabecular tumor [1 (1.6%) case].
The differential diagnosis includes branchial cyst, thyroglossal cyst
, dermoid cyst, lipoma, laryngocele, thyroid mass, and hemangioma.
Any anechoic area in the fetal neck must be differentiated from other diseases, such as cervical cystic hygroma, cystic teratoma, or thyroglossal cyst
. The anechoic area, however, can be easily differentiated from these anomalies by its transient appearance, as well as its position.
Based on the clinicoradiological and CECT findings, a tentative clinical diagnosis of plunging ranula was made with strong differential diagnoses of lymphangioma, dermoid, epidermoid cyst, thyroglossal cyst
and cystic hygroma.
