Tiller

 

a lever attached to the upper part of the rudder stock and used to turn the rudder. Tillers may have a single arm parallel to the vessel’s longitudinal axis or two arms perpendicular to the vessel’s longitudinal axis. Some tillers have the shape of a quadrant and are equipped with a cable or gear drive. Tillers are principally used on small vessels.
