When an aircraft moves from one air traffic control services unit to another, the control of the aircraft is transferred from one air traffic control unit to another at a defined point. The air traffic control unit that is handing over the control to the next air traffic control unit is called the transferring unit. The unit taking over the control of the aircraft must give its consent before the control is transferred. See accepting unit/controller.
