Matsushita Electronic Components Company Ltd., has succeeded in commercializing a low profile 2 mm square SMT trimmer potentiometer
that is suitable for adjustment of the circuits used in electronic equipment.
Murata Electronics North America, Smyrna, Ga., a leading innovator in electronics, has introduced its new ultra small (3mm) Closed Cermet Trimmer Potentiometer.
Engineering samples of Murata's Trimmer Potentiometer PVG3 series are available upon demand.
Murata is recommending Gull Wing lead terminal shapes to replace trimmer potentiometers 4mm in size and J-lead in new design applications.
The upper part of the figure shows the integrated circuit with four operating amplifiers, beneath a row of three trimmer potentiometers
for regulating the operating amplifiers.
While trimmer potentiometers
are simple to implement and relatively inexpensive, they suffer from mechanical limitations and vulnerabilities, and the labor to properly adjust them to meet certain specifications requires technician level skills making automation even more costly and sometimes even impractical in high volume applications.
