trommel

[′träm·əl]
(mining engineering)
A revolving cylindrical screen used to grade coarsely crushed ore: the ore is fed into the trommel at one end, the fine material drops through the holes, and the coarse is delivered at the other end. Also known as trommel screen.

The new combine attachment is a 10-foot- (300-centimeter-) long cylindrical trommel of mesh-like material called "hardware cloth" that rests atop the machine.
The structural framing used for trommels traditionally consisted of a rectangular steel framework, typically using square or rectangular hollow sections for the members.
Next the waste goes into a rotating trommel where sharp cutters break open bags and separate ferrous metals through magnetic separation.
Sherbrooke says its finger screens are built to be durable in the harsh C&D climate, and that they are less subject to being rendered ineffective by material that either clogs up trommels or, in the case of wire and plastic sheet, wraps around the discs or stars in those types of screens.
The company's manufacturing process begins by breaking the bales apart with large trommels. The bottles then ride on conveyors that pass by manual sorters who remove obvious unwanted items, such as metal and aluminum cans, dark-colored plastics and other non-PET bottles that have made it into the bales.
When the waste is reduced to a manageable size it is then fed through a series of conveyor belts, trommels, magnets and blowers arriving finally at the picking station where it undergoes a final cleaning process.

Screening equipment, from trommels to vibrating screens to finger screens to disc screens, can facilitate further separation and sorting of mixed C&D material by sizing the material as it moves through the system, creating an overs line that is hand picked and an unders line that is separated into its constituent parts using automation in the form of magnets, air classification systems and sink tanks.
Components can be sold individually: granulators, bale breakers, spin dryers, trommels, air conveying/ classification systems, float/sink classifiers, PET crystallizers, rotary hot-air dryers, and flake washers.
