For the past few seasons, American climatological analysis identifies the advance of the Inter Tropical Front (ITF) a full 2 degrees further north; the normal position is between 17 to 18[degrees] North, penetrating the Sahel, to a persistent (some 14 or so weeks duration) 20[degrees] latitude.
The western end of this inter tropical front showed a weak but persistent vortex just to the west of the Kunene estuary, extending across northern Namibia as it became most actively identifiable as the intense tropical cyclone "Funso" in the Mozambique Channel.
