tunnel junction

[′tən·əl ‚jəŋk·shən]
(electronics)
A two-terminal electronic device having an extremely thin potential barrier to electron flow, so that the transport characteristic (the current-voltage curve) is primarily governed by the quantum-mechanical tunneling process which permits electrons to penetrate the barrier.

Local and regional trains already call at Severn Tunnel Junction further east, and the recent demolition of the Prince of Wales Bridge toll booths has created space for a new motorway junction on the toll plaza site - a stone's throw from the station.
To solve that problem in current multi-junction solar cells heavily doped metals are used to create a tunnel junction between the various layers -- adding significant expense and complexity to the multi-junction solar cell's creation.
The proposed service, which would start operating late 2020, would run from Cardiff Central, toNewport, Severn Tunnel Junction and Bristol Parkway, then express to London Paddington.

is the provider of next generation perpendicular magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) STT-MRAM cells.
Scotland Road's former Derby Cinema near the modern Kingsway Tunnel junction has been transformed into a brand new aparthotel, fittingly called the Picture House.
The fabrication of a MIM tunnel junction is very similar to the process described in Figure 1.
Abstract: Flexible MgO barrier magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) devices are fabricated using a transfer printing process.
The ACSTM probes the chemistry of insulator surfaces using microwaves reflected from the surface, microwave throughput attenuation and harmonics of the microwaves generated by the tunnel junction. It measures photons emitted from the tunneling junction, excited by the tunneling electrons.
The first one was a bridge and tunnel junction at Prince Majed Street (Sabeen) constructed nearly two years ago.
The model incorporates lateral resistance components connecting the functional blocks across the rows ([R.sub.lat]), tunnel junction resistances ([R.sub.T]) connecting the subcells in series, and contact resistances ([R.sub.se]) for the electrodes.
