of durable quality. It is a chemical compound of mercury and sulfur and is known as red sulfide of mercury; it was formerly obtained by grinding pure cinnabar but is now commonly prepared synthetically. Vermilion is a good pigment for protecting iron and steel and is therefore used in paints. It is commonly adulterated because of its high cost. Certain other materials are sometimes called vermilion; among them is imitation vermilion, prepared from a combination of red lead or basic lead chromate and certain other chemicals.

Called vermilion rockfish, red rock cod or named simply "reds", Sebastes miniatus, is a common fish species that is caught from, both, the coastal commercial and the recreational fishing; is found from Prince William Sound, Alaska south to central Baja California, Mexico (O'Connell et al.
Vermilion rockfish showed strong site fidelity, but they may move from reef to reef, particularly in deep water, and may be associated with following schools of prey, such as squid (Lea et al 1999; Love 1981; Love 1996).
Female vermilion rockfish appear to be reproductively active throughout the year and gravid was most abundant in September, and spent individuals were observed in the highest percentage during October-November (Lea et al 1999).
In California and during 2004, a total of 212 metric tons were landed of vermilion rockfish from the recreational fishing across 1,100 miles of coastline, and was seventh in the list of fish species abundance (CDFG 2005).
The objective of this study is to determine the abundance and the length structure of the vermilion rockfish caught by the partyboats throughout 2005.
Vermilion rockfish catch from the individual boats were counted and measured upon arrival and before of their cleaning.
A total of 620 vermilion rockfish (60.4% of total) were measured and weighed.
The same can be said for vermilion snapper aggregations on the Atlantic coast, where an April 1 season opener will have bottom fishermen out hunting for the good-eating snappers.
Heavy-hitters such as greater amberjack, cobia and gag grouper always make for great stories, but for anglers like Braden and his father, the magic trio of sea bass, vermilion and triggerfish is probably the biggest draw.
Anglers may keep up to 7 sea bass, 5 vermilion snapper and--depending on what other fish might be biting--up to 20 triggerfish.
Some boats object to braid, as it sinks at a different rate than monofilament, often creating tangles, but if you clear it with the boat when you make your reservations, you'll certainly feel the subtle bite of a big vermilion better.
Another quick tip: If you're getting too many grunt or small vermilion bites, drop your line to the bottom, and wind it up about 6 turns.
