BACE is a key enzyme in the production of Abeta peptides, which inhibits beta site of
amyloid precursor protein (APP).
[beta]-secretase is a protease that acts in place of amino acid, aspartic acid and produces [beta]-amyloid peptide and the C99 fragment, the 99 amino acids from the C-terminal of the
amyloid precursor protein. Next, y-secretase cleaves
amyloid precursor protein and produces p-amyloid peptides with different sizes, [alpha]-secretase with the effect on the
amyloid precursor protein produces C83 fragment.

Familial Alzheimer's disease is attributable to mutations in the sequences for the genes encoding the
amyloid precursor protein (APP) or its processing enzymes (Selkoe, 1996).
Amyloid precursor protein (APP) severing disorder lead to over expression or less clearance of A[beta], and then A[beta] became aggregated.
In a previous study, we found that DSCAM was also overexpressed in the cortex of the
amyloid precursor protein (APP) transgenic mouse model of AD (2).
Subsequently, cDNA cloning was performed and
amyloid precursor protein (APP) was discovered in 1986-1987.
This hydrophobic polypeptide is proteolytically produced by [beta]- and [gamma]-secretases from a single transmembrane polypeptide referred to as
amyloid precursor protein (APP) (Zhou et al., 2011).
