A new freight rail line that opened in 2016 from Gorgan, Iran through Turkmenistan to
Beineu in western Kazakhstan may provide new opportunities for trafficking in the future.
In addition, Kazakhstan had an internal gas pipeline built to connect
Beineu to Bozoi and Shymkent.
Kazakhstan has already commissioned its portion of the railway route
Beineu -Etrek - Gyzylgaya - Gorgan (Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran) as part of the Inernational North-South Transportation Corridor.
In January 1987 it was learned that Velikanova, who was in exile in
Beineu (in the Mangyshlak region, Kazadh SSR) was threatened with criminal proceedings for "parasitism." She was denied permission to work as a computer programmer, and then charged with parasitism.
