Location:On the north edge of Calumet along State Highway 169, halfway between Grand Rapids and Hibbing.
Facilities:Mine site, museum, exhibits, visitor center (é), gift shop, picnic area, picnic shelter, playground, flush toilets (é).
Activities:Mine tours, interpretive programs (seasonal), fossil hunting.
Special Features:Historic open-pit mine was one of the richest iron ore mines in the nation and is now a tribute to the mining industry. Tours into the pit offer visitors views of the mine pits, lakes, and rock walls in various shades of red, and tell about the mine operation, the people who worked here, and where they came from.
