Size: 100,390 acres.
Established: Coulee Dam Recreation Area administered under cooperative agreement with Bureau of Reclamation and Bureau of Indian Affairs (U.S. Department of the Interior), since December 18, 1946. Renamed on January 1, 1997.
Location:In northeast Washington, stretching 130 miles along the length of Lake Roosevelt.
Facilities:Campgrounds (é), picnic area, rest rooms (é), boat ramp, marina, bathhouse, visitor center (é), museum/exhibit, self- guided tour/trail.
Activities:Camping, swimming, boating, kayaking, fishing, water-skiing, wildlife viewing, auto touring, hunting, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Formed by Grand Coulee Dam (part of the Columbia River Basin Project), 130-mile-long Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake is the principal recreation feature here. Fort Spokane, situated at the confluence of the Columbia and Spokane rivers, was one of the last frontier forts built in the West (1880) and vividly illustrates changes in government policy towards Indian tribes at the turn of the century.
