Leinster

a province of E and SE Republic of Ireland: it consists of the counties of Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow. Pop.: 2 105 579 (2002). Area: 19 632 sq. km (7580 sq. miles)

Leinster

 

a historical province in southeastern Ireland, including 12 counties and two official conurbations (Dublin and Dun Laoghaire). Area, 19,700 sq km; population, 1,500,000 (1971, with more than 60 percent urban). Although Leinster is mostly an agricultural region, the industrial complex of Dublin is also located there. Livestock yielding meat and dairy products are raised for export. Corn and sugar beets are grown, and there is fishing. Polymetallic ores are mined.
