In 2017, to mark the International year of Sustainable Tourism for Development South
Luangwa became the first National Park in the world to be declared an 'International Park for Sustainable Tourism Development'.

In Zambia, the Chikunda are found in the
Luangwa district, in the eastern part of Lusaka Province, bordering Chongwe district to the West, Mozambique to the East, and Zimbabwe to the South.

It is a xeric species of the savanna woodland forests, being found mostly on heavy-textured soils in flat valley bottoms such as Zambezi, Okavango, Limpopo, Cunene, Shire, and
Luangwa [3, 4].
In forestry, the government of Zambia is looking for an equity partner for establishing 100 000 ha of exotic plantations and a strategic equity financing partner, with management rights, in
Luangwa and Kafue national parks (Zambia Development Agency 2017).
While counterintuitive, this was also a result in a study from the
Luangwa District of Zambia [8].
During August-September 2011, a total of 85 hippopotamuses (Hippopotamus amphibius) died of suspected anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) infection in a game management area along the South
Luangwa River near the district of Chama in northeastern Zambia (Figure 1) (I).

The distribution of mopane ranges from southern Angola and northern Namibia across Botswana and Zimbabwe to central and southern Mozambique and from the
Luangwa valley in Zambia and central Malawi to northern South Africa (Figure 1).
