Mur

 

(also Mura), a river in Austria and Yugoslavia. A section of the border between Yugoslavia and Hungary lies along the lower course of the river. The Mur is a left tributary of the Drava (Danube basin). Length, 434 km; drains an area of about 15,000 sq km. In its upper course it flows through a narrow valley. Below the city of Graz (Austria) it flows along a plain. The average discharge rate at the mouth is 166 cu m per sec. The Mur is floatable. A hydroelectric power plant is located on the river. It is navigable below Graz.
