The National Sheep Association said the language used by
PETA was misleading the public and damaging farmers' livelihoods.
However despite the message
PETA were trying to achieve, the stunt reportedly upset youngsters who were in the city on Thursday.
Some of the strongest backlash, though, came from people more upset about a follow-up tweet
PETA posted after the chart, in which it compared "phrases that trivialize cruelty to animals" to racist or homophobic phrases that were no longer acceptable.
"
PETA is calling on the Dail to ban fur farming in order to prevent sensitive animals from being gassed to death."
In this regard,
PETA India CEO Dr Manilal Valliyate wrote to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, requesting that the Indian Railways "go a step further by offering only vegan food (dairy- and egg-free as well as vegetarian) that day."
Dogs,
Peta says in a blog post, are "judged on looks and not health" at shows like Crufts.
The travel advisory came after an investigation by
PETA detailed 1,300 donkeys, camels, mules and horses showing signs of abuse from beatings, exhaustion and chains embedded into their skin.
"More people than ever are clamouring for healthy vegan options from their favourite onthe-go eateries," says
PETA director of vegan corporate projects Dawn Carr.
Last month, David Slater and the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (
PETA) finally settled their two-year legal battle over the intellectual property rights of a rare Indonesian crested macaque monkey named Naruto, who took pictures of himself in the wild with Slaters camera.

PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, decided to get involved.
