(25) Jean-Claude Boulanger, <<Le Petit Larousse au Quebec; breve histoire et influence>>, dans Jean Pruvost et Micheline Guilpain-Giraud (dirs.), Pierre Larousse, du Grand Dictionnaire au Petit Larousse.
In Jean Pruvost's first article we read that Pierre Larousse was more than a lexicographer; he was an innovative teacher (village schoolmaster in Burgundy), a writer of French manuals (grammar and lexicology), bookseller, publisher, printer, a practical and ambitious businessman.
Increasingly professional literary critics are also usefully represented by Brunetiere, Faguet, Lanson, and Taine and, less predictably, by Pierre Larousse's severe 1867 'Balzac' Dictionnaire universel entry.
