Portsmouth has a naval station, and its major industries are shipbuilding and ship repair. Other industries include the aircraft, electrical-engineering, and other branches of machine building and the production of clothing. Among the city’s suburbs are Gosport, which is connected by a bridge with Portsmouth, and the seaside resort of Southsea.
