RealJukebox

Earlier software from RealNetworks that organized and managed a user's digital music collection. Running under Windows and supporting CDDB, RealJukebox captured songs from audio CDs and digitized them in RealAudio or MP3 formats. RealJukebox's functionality was integrated into the company's multimedia player (see RealPlayer). See CDDB.

It became public some time ago that each copy of RealPlayer, like Windows Media Player, contained a globally unique identifier (GUID) that was transmitted to the provider when the user accessed streaming media.(32) It only recently became known that the same company's RealJukebox player transmitted information back to its makers including the names of all the CDs the user played, the number of songs recorded on her hard disk, the brand of portable MP3 player she owned, and the music genre she listened to most.(33) The information was tied to a unique identification number that could be mapped to the user's email address via the registration database.
If you want to make your own MP3 files, RealJukebox Basic (www.real.com) is a good, free bet but it won't let you record at CD quality.
A US-based company called RealNetworks, which developed the RealJukebox software that allows users to listen to music CDs on their PCs, has apologised for breaching customers' privacy.
