In northwestern MN, southeast of Grand Forks, ND; established Dec 24, 1896 from Polk County. Name Origin: For the Red Lake River, which flows through it; from a translation of the Ojibway word meaning 'red', referring to the color of the lake when the setting sun is reflected in it
