"SCADA systems are becoming increasingly critical for the control and operation of an increasingly digitalized grid, and our ABB AbilityTM based solutions are ideally suited to support this transition, reinforcing our position as a partner of choice for enabling a stronger, smarter and greener grid."
According to the report, ABB is also the number-one supplier of SCADA control centre solutions for Transmission and Distribution in North America and Latin America, and the global leader in large-scale SCADA projects (over $1 million), it added.
Also in 2012, smart grid technology vendor Telnet, advised that APT 1, a Chinese military hacker group, installed malicious software and stole project files related to OASyS SCADA. The OASyS SCADA technology helps energy firms mesh old technology with newer, "smart" technology.

"This complexity and interconnectivity brings risk, and the identification and mitigation of the risks and hazards due to accidents or malicious activity relating to modern SCADA and DCS systems (i.e., SCADA and DCS cyber security) is not a mature practice and is not commonly covered explicitly by regulations in Oman," he added.
Application-wise, the global SCADA market is divided into electrical power, water and wastewater, oil and gas, transportation, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverages.
The SCADA system which was then allowed to operate in a closed private network disconnected from the Internet for not being a victim to cyber danger now strongly requires various types of external connections along with remote maintenance and usage of mobile storage mediums such as USB flash memory.
The market of SCADA Systems will show digital transformation in years to come due to integration of cloud computing, IIoT, big data analytics and augmented reality technologies with SCADA system.
This can be achieved when each individual turbine is constantly adjusted by the SCADA system for interaction with other turbines in the wind farm, the ongoing wind data processed in real time, as well as the local grid conditions.
