The silicon and the aluminium in the low-calcium fly ash react with an alkaline liquid that is a combination of
sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solutions to form the geopolymer paste that binds the aggregates and other un-reacted materials.
For a given geopolymer concrete, the total mass of water in the mixture is taken as the sum of the mass of water in the
sodium silicate solution, the mass of water in the sodium hydroxide solution, and the mass of extra water, if any added to the mixture.
In the industrial sector,
sodium silicate is used by the industris of catalysts, silica gel, soap & detergents, pigments, and water and pater treatments.
The data suggested that using a more alkaline
sodium silicate solution (one with a lower Si[O.sub.2]: [Na.sub.2]O ratio) or raising pH with another chemical (e.g., sodium or potassium hydroxide) should be investigated.

Different weight fractions of
sodium silicate (10-30%) were mixed with PPG as different white components of PU/silicate.
Hydrous
sodium silicate, a syrupy liquid, was used as the second binding agent.
Besides environmental improvements,
sodium silicate binders' production qualities are advancing.
Generally,
sodium silicate reacts with an acidic ion exchange resin to produce silicic acid, which further condenses to form nano-silica particles.
