a county in Great Britain, on the southwestern border of Greater London. Area, 1,500 sq km. Population, 999,600 (1971). Cities in Surrey are residential or industrial suburbs of London. Industries include machine building and electrical engineering. The southern part of Surrey is an agricultural region, mainly for dairy-cattle breeding, poultry farming, and pig breeding. Major cities in Surrey include Guildford and Woking.
