In east-central MN, northwest of Minneapolis; established Feb 20, 1855 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For Silas Wright (1795-1847), NY governor (1845-47) and friend of a member of the county organization committee; his name was chosen "as a compromise after a somewhat animated discussion."
