With the use of a low-power wide
beam antenna, the described system enables communication coverage for aircraft with fewer beams, fewer antennas and receivers onboard a satellite thus reducing its payload, hardware and ground stations requirements, and results in a more reliable service that can be achieved with less switching and traffic handover issues.

A compact conical
beam antenna has been proposed based on the QMSIW array, which is consisted of six isosceles right-angled triangle metallic patch printed on the upper side of the substrate in a windmill-shape and diagonal periodic metallic via holes drilled along the hypotenuse of the triangle patch.

It makes use of all of the degrees of freedom of the multiple
beam antenna and yields numerous operational capabilities including continuous pattern shaping and adaptive nulling of interference sources.
The missile travels at 250 meters/sec, close to the surface of the water and has a radar with a 5 [degrees] -wide vertical-fan
beam antenna. We assume that the antenna has the same gain across its beam and zero gain outside its beam.

As shown in Figure 12, the multiband dual-polarization dual-antenna switched
beam antenna system has exhibited a better higher channel capacity when the V.A works in switched beam modes under high signal-to-noise ratio rather than in omni directional modes.
In association with a switch matrix, a multiple
beam antenna can also be used for electronic beam steering, replacing mechanical beam steering in radar applications [3].
