A hollow cornice, built up of boards and moldings, resulting in a soffit under the eaves.

boxed cornice, box cornice, closed cornice

A hollow cornice, built up of boards, moldings, shingles, etc., so that the lower ends of the rafters are not visible. Also called a closed cornice.
