buffer pooling

[′bəf·ər ‚pül·iŋ]
(computer science)
A technique for receiving data in an input/output control system in which a number of buffers are available to the system; when a record is produced, a buffer is taken from the pool, used to hold the data, and returned to the pool after data transmission.
