AS MOST READERS know, statistical tests calculate a mean and
confidence intervals on the mean.
To visualize the construction of
confidence intervals, a population of 2000 random numbers is generated, its standard deviation is calculated and is used in all
confidence interval estimations.
Researchers can now compute a
confidence interval for a squared multiple correlation using a simple R command (see Kelley, 2007).
If the random interval [L(R), U(R)] satisfies P[L(R) [less than or equal to] [theta] [less than or equal to] U(R)] = 1 - [gamma], then [L(r), U(r)] is a
confidence interval for [theta] with confidence coefficient 1 - [gamma], where r = ([r.sub.1], ..., [r.sub.n]) and each [r.sub.i] is an observed value of [R.sub.i] when i = 1, 2, ..., n.
For the classification of genotypes treated in this work or the Figure (18) and by the
confidence interval, our genotypes are classified into two groups:
In the case of the median, we obtain the
confidence interval using five different methods: the standard error method (Kendall, 1945; Mothes and Torres-Ibern, 1970), the binomial median
confidence interval (Bland, 2003; DeCoster and Burchill, 2000), the McKean & Schraeder method, the Maritz & Jarret method and the adaptive kernel estimation to obtain the median
confidence interval (Wilcox, 2005).
In the study by Smith (2013) in this issue on readmissions in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), some results were reported with
confidence intervals, abbreviated CI.
[2]adapted Bernstein's inequality to provide an improvement over a naive
confidence interval. The method requires only independent data with finite variance and imposes a heuristic assumption of boundedness in a range (a, b) [member of] R.

Missouri uses the following steps in evaluating AYP at the school, district/LEA, and state levels: (1) Participation Rate; (2) Cell Size; (3) Annual Proficiency Target Indicator; (4) Additional Indicators; (5)
Confidence Interval; (6) Growth; (7) Safe Harbor; and (8) Safe Harbor
Confidence Interval.
