This first one is a stored volume energy that acts uniformly in every portion of the affected grain that is being swept by a moving
grain boundary. During such cases, the stored energy can frequently be simplified and written in scalar form.

grain boundary energy.
A
grain boundary enriched by Ni, Mn, P, Si, and C can be easily seen in the image of the specimen after segregation provoking treatment (Figure 4(b)).
Based on the equivalence of
grain boundary migration and single-site switches in the Potts model, during one Monte Carlo step, the
grain boundary between two adjacent grains is displaced over a distance [DELTA].
Figure 8 shows small size cracks and in-tact portion (size in few micrometers) on the
grain boundary. We observe many extrusions on the grain a.
Considering the Sn[O.sub.2] varistor microstructure, a Schottky-type electrical barrier may be ascribed as the most likely barrier at the Sn[O.sub.2]
grain boundary, since no inter-granular insulating layer separating two Sn[O.sub.2] grains was observed in SEM.
Grain boundary engineering can be used to improve the properties of a material by manipulating the
grain boundary character via themomechanical processing.
The researchers reported that gold nanomesh electrodes, produced by the novel
grain boundary lithography, increase resistance only slightly, even at a strain of 160 percent, or after 1,000 cycles at a strain of 50 percent.
The fine grain samples indicate a lower oxidation rate that shows that the fine grains promotes the higher
grain boundary path that was act as a diffusion path of ion across the metal-gas surface.
To specify a
grain boundary, five parameters are needed in general.
