intercept

i. As used in air defense, it means maneuvering an aircraft to effect closure for the purpose of identification or shooting down, or for any other purpose.
ii. To capture and hold desired flight conditions, as in an ILS (instrument landing system) or VOR (very high frequency omnidirectional radio-range) radial.
iii. An altitude difference.
