A granulocytic cell intermediate in development between the myelocyte and granular leukocyte; characterized by a full complement of cytoplasmic granules and a bean-shaped nucleus. Also known as juvenile cell; metagranulocyte.

In case of malaria infection, multiple gray dots in the middle area were observed in the IMI channel despite the absence of immature granulocytes (myelo- and metamyelocyte) and any fluorescent signals above neutrophils in DIFF channel.
Maturation stages in the bone marrow are as follows: stem cell, myeloblast, promyelocyte, myelocyte, metamyelocyte, band and neutrophil.

In the aspiration smear, 18% myelocyte, 35% metamyelocyte, 11% polymorphonuclear leukocyte, 28% lymphocyte, 2% normoblast, 1% monocyte, 1% eosinophil, and 4% lymphoblast-like cells were present.
