Approximate Calculations
The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased.
Approximate Calculations
calculations in which the data and the result—or at least the result—are numbers that only approximately represent the true values of the corresponding quantities. Approximate calculations are performed in the numerical solution of problems and are a result of inaccuracies inherent in the formulation of the problem and in the methods of the problem’s solution. The general rules and the theory of methods of approximate calculation are commonly referred to as numerical methods.
