Hantan

 

a city in North China, in Hopeh Province. Population, 500,000 (1970). Hantan is a highway junction and has a station on the Peking-Canton railroad line. Enterprises include a metallurgical combine, plants for the manufacture of diesel engines and petroleum equipment, the Hankuan machinery plant, spinning and weaving factories, a plant for the production of dyes, and a cement plant. Hard coal is mined in the region, in the Fengfeng basin, and iron ore is also extracted.
